As a result of my experiment and the suggested alternative to use the bag tied around a branch of leaves I now carry 2-3 bags folded very flat in a Ziploc sandwich bag. If I have to cut one for a still, I will have two more. They may also serve as a poncho or pup tent etc.

I will once again attempt to construct a proper still. I have to believe that I can get more than a tablespoon of water.....

Just remember that beach sand will hold on to the salts. You are better off going to the lowest spot closest to the beach. You see sand is loose enough and has large enough grains that the salt disolved in the tides wil leach down through. So if your digging for clean water close to salt water, avoid sand. You will have to dig deeper but the salt will be much less there.

On a positive note, I may have just discovered one way NOT to make a Solar Still.
Hehe 999 more times how to not make a solar still and youll have it (according to Edison)

Iīve tried this before and I didnīt have much luck. I didnīt add any vegetation or pour any salt water into the still before trying.
