Yeah, I understand the concept of boiling water in just about anything, but honestly, I wouldn't have thought to use a leaf (til now) if I didn't have anything else to work with.

I liked it! It's definitely worth reading. It's considered a book for juveniles. Another clever kid who manages very well out in the woods. So, it's another easy read (about 180 pages).

There's several copies of the book at all the local libraries in my area. I had trouble finding it thinking it was in the Young Adult section, but it was actually in the Children's/ Juvenile section. The movie, 'A Cry in the Wild' (based on the book 'Hatchet') was also in the children's section. Guess, I'm bein' a big kid lately, ha ha.

Check it out!

I was at my 2nd grader's school yesterday for an open house. he was showing me the library and I was browsing the shelves. I saw 3 copies of the "hatchet" book and pulled my son over to me and whispered "take this book out for daddy on your next library day"

that is very true... i don't think i would be thinking about chemicals at a time when i'm needing water.

good to know it can be done but i would need a bigger leaf than that.....shoot i'd be more thirsty by the time it was safe to drink let alone hold a little leaf over a fire get all impatient and spill the water......good to know but i'd definitely need a bigger leaf......maybe a Banana leaf would do it for me...
