Wet lips on metal containers doesn't work well in sub-freezing temperatures.

I've also learned to keep a gallon of water in my car. Many has been the time I've stumbled the last miles toward the vehicle with thoughts of this precious cargo awaiting my parched body.
In subfreezing temps I use a 70 ounce unbottle for storage because you can store the hose with the bladder in its insulated compartment. I also carry the poland spring 1 liter bottle insulator with the 1 liter bottle. At night I wrap them in my mid layer fleece or down jacket, whatever I am not wearing and tuck them in the footbed of my sleeping bag.
