Default Take Water for Granted?

I know I do. Even tho I did the "off grid" water thing a couple of weeks ago I wasn't really with out water.
I now am without water......my water is pumped from the church well and since the fire there is no electricity to pump the water over here to the house.
So....I'm hauling water from where ever I can get it (other people) for washing me, flushing, brushing my teeth, coffee, washing dishes. I actually went to the laundry mat since it would take too much water to wash by hand.
I'm getting my hand pump hooked back up this week so I can just go out the back door and pump the water myself. I can filter what I need for drinking and it would make it really nice to have when tshtf.
Wanting to wipe down the counters in the kitchen, wash my hands or get the animals drinking water is just something I automatically do. I turn on the faucet and out comes the water. Well, that isn't happening so, i am using alot of Lysol Wipes for the counters, sanitary hand cleaner instead of washing my hands in the sink, but the animals get water when ever the bowl is empty.
Modern conviences have spoiled me and this is good for the mind to experience this now before it becomes a reality on a daily basis for long term. I wonder how people will conserve? I flush once a day and that's it, I know that sounds gross but it's just me here so I don't have to worry about it much. no paper in the comode either unless its.....well, you know. LOL
Flushing once in the morning uses 5 gals and that is enough to wash me so I must use my water wisely. What if I only had a creek? hmmmm.....something to think about.

thanks Sten but I'm not complaining, Just wanted to expound on the conviences that we take for granted. i don't mind so much. I'm a primitive camper/hiker and do this all summer so it's not so much a stretch. It just feels wierd is all.

Oh i know that, didnt mean to hyjack the thread. The ways i save water are put buckets under the eves of the house. When the well goes dry we have a second older well 20 feet down.If that goes dry i take the water from the buckets and filter it inside, one by one into a larger 30 gallon container.Sucks but its gotten use by.A drilled well is something like 4k-7k here in Ct

I know I do too. sorry for your challenge; but I'm sure its making you better prepared for the future. as far at the creek; you can think very very hard; as hard as you can, but you'll never be able to add a creek to your house...sorry to break the news!

Thanks for the reminder. There are indeed a LOT of things we take for granted that few are prepared to address heads up. And the day is fast coming when we won't be able to depend on government even for the basics like clean water.

Having a few barrels of water are nice to have stored when needed. I think 10 gallons a day is plenty for one. 5 gallons for a solar shower, and the other 5 for washing and drinking. The 3 gallon water bottles with molded handle for water coolers[like culligan] are handy for water carrying and storage.

My wife has always been iffy about drinking our water since it is a shallow well and several years back it was positive for ecoli. She recently was bugging me about getting Poland Springs delivered for her and the kid.Maybe its not a bad idea and i can kill 2 birds with one stone and start stock piling water in the basement as well??

I had quite a bit of water stored in the basement and I have used about 1/2 of it. I had some that was unfiltered (well) and some filtered. I have used the unfiltered for flushing.
Sten you can store the well water just mark it!

Hey my friend, sorry to hear of your dilemma. I say flushing once a day beats digging holes in back yard and freezing your tush in the process. Hang in there dear.
