Default Service Small Arms Competition

I spent the weekend competing at a Service Small Arms Competition. Pistol shoot on Friday was a first for me…as was the flesh removal on my thumb from the action on the 9mm glock.
I shot against 53 other competitors and did fairly well considering I’m a left handed shooter with a right handed bolt action 303 Lee Enfield Mark IV with iron sights and they were all using semi auto 223 C-7’s with scopes. My best shoot was the 500 meter prone deliberate (for some reason it always is).
There was lots of running involved…time to quit smoking. I really enjoy the competitions. They definitely get you better at shooting in all kinds of positions, heaving chest (from being out of breath), rapid, snap, and deliberate; moving targets, and timed run downs with falling plates.
If a firearm is part of your plan, then get out there and practice.
I'll post when I get some pics from the camera owner.

That is awesome stuff Dick. I love firearms competition, always have. I guess its one of the highs in my life.

Weapons shooting is like getting a new car.

At first, you have to learn it, the particulars of it, then, with daily driving and practice, you know your vehicle with your eyes shut. Pretty soon, your flying around corners powersliding and the vehicle becomes part of you.

Get out of the vehicle and quit driving totally for 6 months, and you loose some of that and it takes you a while to get back into the groove.

The key is PRACTICE..

Sounds like fun to me. Looking forward to seeing the pics.

I'd get out there and shoot more myself if I wasn't so concerned about keeping what ammo I have in light of the ongoing shortage out there.

...& it's alot more fun when the bullets are flying in just one direction.

I am fortunate to have an essentially unlimited supply of 303 ammo. I’d need a second job otherwise.
RR, that’s why I like to practice, so that when the rounds are coming my way it will only last as long as it takes for me to squeeze off a round of return fire...as long as they are within 500 meters.

It's funny how accuracy drops when they are flying your way!

We are talking Competition shooting sports ROADRACER!

In competition shooting sports, NOT COMBAT, bullets rarely fly your way unless, of course, they bounce off a gong or something like that. Competitions shooting involves tests of porficiency (Accuracy) and sometimes Speed and accuracy to attain a goal that cannot be shared.
This means the shooter with the hightest degree of profiency wins.

You have to make things so difficult! If you lived close to me, I would walk over there and kick your A$$. Just for fun.

One of the more decorated and seasoned competitors from the British Columbia Regiment (Primary Reserves) who has served and engaged the enemy on several occasions in Afghanistan spoke at the awards ceremony about how important the Service Rifle Competition was for preparing the soldiers.
It basically came down to confidence. A crack shot is a crack shot regardless of whether it is on the range or in the ‘theatre’. The snap (one 10-15 sec. exposure, 2 rounds), the rapid (one 12 sec. exposure, 2 five round clips), and the run downs (physical endurance followed by snap, rapid or deliberate (sniper) all provide the soldiers with valuable skills that transfer well to combat skills.

Here's the team. All the other pictures had people in them that may not want to be seen.
I'm the one with the...you guessed it...Lee Enfield.
