Today I made a small oak handle and leather belt sheath for my first FireSteel.com Firesteel which I just ordered yesterday I think it was. See how it does against the blastmatch or the Swedish firesteel.

my experience is that Ron's firesteels require more striking pressure than the swedish steels, but product longer lived sparks (i can hit the ground from a second floor window; yes I tried) rather than just a flash. my young son who has little hand strength can get better sparks from a swedish.

Or in MY case, Carpe Noctum.

Of course, if you are a DDS, that would be Carpe Dentum.

Ok sorry, just had to inject some humor.

Default Carpe Diem

I simply seized the day with 2 truck loads of firewood. . . not dramatic but I feel that I seized the day. Am trying to learn the use of snares and a "110 conifer trap" (which spring is so tight that I cannot open). Ordered these from Buckshot's site Snare Trap Survive Instructional DVDs, Equipment And Articles Bruce Buckshot Hemming Official Website along with a dvd (Trapping for the Beginner - in which he spends the majority of the time using other types of traps and the skinning of a racoon) and 2 books. The books were filled with anedotes of no help. They were useless to me as I cannot open the 110 and still don't know how to set the quality snares.
But, I did get the firewood . . . any help out there on setting the wire snares? May need a rabbit when the s**t hits the proverbial air circulator. . . or is a 66 y/o too old a dog to learn new tricks. I live on a farm but a guy who helped with the firewood said the coyotes are cleaning out the rabbit population. . . and the 1 year supply of Mountain House is too much for my limited budget. . . I will cease and desist now but wish everyone to follow Ron's prudent advice to Carpe Diem!
