Default Made a few stoves...

So, I've been thinking alot about my cooking situation and what I could do on a shoestring. My birthday was last Saturday and one of my wife's relatives brought canned soda for the party. And, of course, the first thing I thought of was "Stove materials!!" (I'm such a dork!)

I'd already made "Russel the Weekend Adventurer's" stadium can stove (first picture) and it works pretty well, but doesn't burn for as long as I'd like it to. I skipped the primer wick and just make a small puddle of alcohol on the ground by the stove to prime it.

I made the "beverage can" stove (second and third pictures) earlier this week after a little trial and error since the directions didn't include any dimensions. I have a dimensions that works pretty well, if anybody's interested. This burned pretty well, too, but - again - not quite as long as I'd like.

Then I found the penny stove and that's what I've made over the last two days. I love this stove! Burns really well and, with the simmer ring, lasts for over 20 minutes on only 3 tbsp of alcohol!

Anyway - here's the pretty pictures.

Here's the Penny Stove.

In the second picture, there's actually a second simmer ring under the top cap (in the middle of the picture). I keep one under the top cap and stick the second one on top. It all stays together pretty well with just friction, but I'd probably rubber band 'em if I was going to carry them in a pack.

Well that looks like recycling at its finest to me. Great job and keep up the good work.

I also made this wax/PJ/cardboard burner a few weeks ago...

I enjoyed that penny stove so much that I just had to make a second one.

Thanks, CajunLady. Actually, it was just a good excuse to drink soda and beer!

By the way, Happy Belated Birthday! And who doesn't like to drink a good cold one every now and then.

Good work and great finishes. So your preference is definitely for the penny stove...hmmm I'll have to try that one.

Lel, I'm planning to do a timed burn test with them all this evening, so I'll post results afterwards, but from a versatility standpoint, I definitely prefer the penny stove. I still have to make a pot support for it, but that could always be improvised in the field with a few pieces of wood, so it's not super vital to me. I don't have enough pots to do boil tests on them all at the same time, which is what I'd prefer to do, so I may have to just do them one at a time, instead.
