Personally I don't think that you over reacted. I would have responded the same way, maybe worse. When he spat on you, that was assault and to me a person has the right to defend himself and his property.
I can't imagine how I might react if someone spit on me but I guarantee for a while after he would think of me everytime he took a breath of air.

And for some new news, the kid is now out of school with pneumonia and the seasonal flu (not swine) and I'm getting sick... so now I kind of wish I got a few extra hits in... with a chair... and maybe another couple hits with my steel-toe boots.

That's a tough one....I think it did deserve an appropriate reaction but yours might have been overboard....

I don't normally use pop culture references to reflect on real life, but something has always resonated in me when I hear Kenny Rogers' "Coward of the county."

It's a song about a guy who avoids all the redneck nonsense of fighting and gets labeled as a coward because he thinks fighting for fighting's sake is stupid. But when the circumstances warrant, he proves them wrong.

Popping some dumbass who spits on you is a violent reaction, but not an unwarranted or unexpected one. Tattling might or might not have stopped him from doing the same thing in the future, but I feel certain that getting smacked in the kisser will definitely shut down this kid's desire to expectorate on the unsuspecting.

As far as I'm concerned, you performed a public service.

Mook, who hasn't been in a physical altercation for nearly 20 years.

Let me tell you a story. This one time I was outside in the school's little enclave of a hangout spot. And there was this one annoying kid who had been calling me "retard" for the past year every time I walked by. Now, honestly this is a trivial matter. But on this particular day the kid comes up, grabs my lunchbox, and throws it halfway across the parking lot. In retrospect, a bad move. Upon seeing such a display of aggression I took the capri sun I had been preparing to drink, took a nice swig out of it, and spit it back into the pouch. Then I stared at him for about 30 seconds as a subtle nod to leave before I made him. He says to me "go get it retard". I nodded, flashed a quick smile, pointed the pouch at him, and gave him a good soaking of lugie water. He runs off and the kid behind me says "nice", so I go off and retrieve my lunch box. The next day he gets about three friends and I'm the one who got a good @22 woopin. The moral of the story? Doing too well in the distribution of your retribution will have some it ricochet back at ya.

I probably would have done a one punch thing after wiping my hand somewhere on the other guy. Something to think about though, almost all states, counties, cities will have some kind of law that might say something about hitting somebody in the face or head. It could be considered lethal force. Here in Fla. it is.

that was not over reacting. not the greatest story, but at a lacrosse game (no i am not that preppy, but beside the point. ) this kid was fighting with my buddy ( swearing name calling etc). i wondered over and told him to knock it off. he tried to hit me and i head butted him. he dropped like a stone and cried a little bit. which was kinda sad for a 15 year old! sadder since we both had helmets on. My moral being, hit me i will hit you way harder (easy since i am 6'3" and 240 ). but head butting and breaking someone's nose is over reacting. still fighting is not right. self defense is. by my logic is don't hit first. if someone hits you hit harder and don't avoid low blows. on the other had, permanent damage should be avoided as you can be deep in doo doo for that! now, what you did was fine by me. but if you pulled that at my school you would have at least a 14 day suspension!
