it could be that you over cooked it as it looks the same but wont catch.

it catches really easy its just if I blow too hard or too soft it will go out. I put it in a nest and blow but it won't start. But one strike with a firesteel will start the same nest so I don't think the nest is too damp. It's got to be the cloth.

Are you using 100% cotton cloth to make your charcloth?

yeah I just went out and charred it for another 15 minutes and now it stays lit and I started two grass needle leave nests with two pieces so now it works THANKS for the input guys!!

We have good example of what happens when charr cloth in undercooked.

So when do we know it is overcooked, as mentioned in one of the posts above?

George, if it is overcooked I heard it crumbles and falls apart easily

has a think about how to tell going by a bad batch of bathrobe I had. it all looked the same but the good stuff maintained some integrity while being gossamer light, the bad stuff was more like ash with a filiment and crumbly.
