A soft magnesium rod 3/8 inch in diameter by 3 inches long with the addition of a lanyard hole.  To use, simply scrape off a small pile shavings using your knife or FireSteel scraper.

Then simply apply a flame or spark from from your firesteel.  Magnesium shavings burn at 4000 degrees F (2200 degrees C).  This extremely high temperature makes magnesium an excellent tinder for helping you start fires with damp wood.
