Kummerfeldt's survival topics ranged from how to start fires when it is wet to how to build a shelter to protect you from the elements when you are injured.
Peter's book, Surviving a Wilderness Emergency is available for purchase on Amazon.com. Topics include information on Survival Psychology, Survival Myths and Misconceptions, Staying Found and Survival Medicine.
As Peter says and I am sure we all agree with, "You've got to have the basic survival components with you. You've got to have the ability to shelter yourself, the ability to start a fire and the ability to tell other people that you're in trouble."
For me this means have several ways to start a fire, including matches, a magnesium fire starter, and a butane lighter. In the wilderness I always carry a good survival kit. And I leave friends with a planned itinerary clearly describing where I plan to go and when I should be expected back.
One interesting piece of survival advice survival expert Peter Kummerfeldt shared at the Evergreen Sportsmen's Show is to always bring large plastic garbage bags rather than just the reflective survival space blankets that are common in survival kits. According to Kummerfeldt the bags have more uses than emergency space blankets. For example, they can be utilized as emergency blankets, shelter covers, or to collect drinking water.
Some people bring along a couple of regular plastic trash bags like they might use at home. However I and other survivors prefer 55-gallon drum liners. The drum liners are quite a bit longer and so even more versatile for use in survival shelter construction or as an emergency sleeping bag. They can be easily found at your local building supply store in 1-mil and 3-mil thicknesses.
Survival expert Peter Kummerfeldt served 12 years as the survival training director at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado as well as stints as a survival instructor in Spokane, Fairbanks and the Philippines. He is a graduate of the Air Force Survival Instructor Training School and served as an instructor at the Basic Survival School, the Arctic Survival School and the Jungle Survival School.

Pete, I was the Personnel NCO from 1871 to 1976. I remember you well and how fast you made promotion and how well liked you were. I saw you at the Monroe but did not get a chance to talk with you. I remember the rabbit skin coat he made.
