Becker BK10 Survival Knife

More Articles Related to Blades And Knives

The Becker BK10 Survival Knife, also known as the BK10 Crewman Knife, is a scaled down version of the popular BK7 knife. This is one of the more sought after survival knives, having proved its worth in a wide variety of uses.

Ethan Becker Designed the BK10

Ethan Becker of Becker Knives, the designer of the BK10 Crewman survival knife, made this knife rugged so that it would be useful for a variety of purposes that a military knife would be called upon.

Ethan Becker's BK10 knife has been tested to puncture aluminum aircraft skin, 55 gallon drums, as well as cut the usual array of webbing, wood, MRE boxes etc. The pommel can be hit with an improvised hammer to baton the blade through tough objects. The Becker BK 10 knives have a blade purposefully built strong enough to use as a pry bar if necessary, though of course this would probably be advisable only in a survival situation.

The Becker BK10 Blade

Becker BK10

As with all knives worth consideration by the experienced survivor, the Becker BK 10 is a full tang knife. An excellent feature of this survival knife is the hammering pommel that is part of the knifes full tang construction. In many survival or outdoor situations having a good strong pommel comes in handy for pounding, cracking, and hammering.

I like the chunky and very strong knife blade of the Becker BK10. It has a good heft and feel in the hand as it is well balanced with the knife handle. The BK10's blade is .188 inch thick and made of 0170-6C high carbon steel that is flat ground. This blade will hold a keen edge well. A final touch to the BK Ten blade is its black epoxy powdercoat finish that helps prevent the knife from rusting, though of course with use the powdercoating of the knife will wear off - a thin coat of oil will help keep the high carbon steel of your Becker BK 10 from rusting.

The Becker BK10 Sheath

In some ways I like the sheath for the Becker BK 10 survival knife. This sheath consists of an OD green nylon sheath with a kydex insert. The outer nylon knife sheath reduces the rattle potential when your other gear taps against it as you move, potentially revealing your position. The sheath that comes with the Becker BK10 also has an accessory pouch in which you can stow important survival gear that you need close at hand such as a multitool, fire starting materials, or a sharpener. The B10s sheath also features a good sized belt loop, alice click slots for Load Bearing Equipment gear attachment, a snap loop and eyelets so that you can lash the knife sheath wherever you would like.

An Excellent Survival Knife

The Becker BK10 Survival knife is certainly one of the best survival knives out there. The knifes 5.5 inch blade is perhaps a little on the large size for survival knives, especially where size and weight are an issue, but is still within an acceptable range. The BK10s extra rugged construction and full tang pommel feature give this knife an edge in shear strength that few other survival knives can rival.

Give the Becker BK10 knife a try and let me know what you think about it.

I have a Becker BK Ten KNife. One of my favorite knives I used this knife in the military (Marines) while stationed overseas. A good knife with a very tough tip used for opening many a can. This knife can dice onions as well as skin an animal. Holds an edge very good too.

I like the Beckr BK's, good hefty knives at reasonable prices. I think these knives are getting a little harder to find.

Thank you for recommending this knife. It's too bad it's discontinued and out of stock, but it can still be found on ebay and in private sales. Would you recommend any other good survival knives?

I've been tearing up the internet trying to find the BK10 or BK2. The only one I could find is on e-bay and it is an expensive knife. If you have any info on where to get Becker Knives I'd appreciate it.

After reading your review I went searching and found the BK7 hard to find, except for expensive auctions on eBay. Last week I lucked out though at a local Mil. Surplus store. They had the BK7 in tan and didn't know how rare it is. They even sold it to me at a 10% discount because they didn't have the box any longer. I can't wait to test this out!

Survival Topics - now that is a great find Erik! Any Becker knife is now a collectors item and worth far more than the origonal list price.

My BK7 has been my knife of choice for outdoors for a few years now. It's a bit large for long hikes and I've been trying out a SOG Team Leader for a smaller, lighter alternative, but nothing beats the no-BS design and overall balls of the BK7. What a shame these are not in production any more.

I found a Becker BK10 knife in a military dumpstore on the net. Ordered it, and can hardly wait till it arrives in a few days.

Survival Topics - Good catch!  These knives are highly sought after and will only increase in value.

I have a lot of knives, Hatchets, Axe's and machetes. I have lost count of how many and often find ones that I had completely forgotten about stashed in boxes. But for survival I feel it would be either my locking box cutter or my spyderco endura with about a 3 1/2 inch ZDP - 189 blade. As these are the 2 i have on my person all the time. And in most cases would probably be the only ones available to me during a crisis.

Becker knives can now be purchased through knife shops under Ka-bar with the Becker name and they look identical to the original Becker. I think that Becker himself works for Ka-bar, and I believe that these new knives are the same knives.
