Brew Coffee in a Water Bottle
More Articles Related to Survival GearAmerican Bushman found a great little coffee filter that fits on to standard wide mouth bottles like the popular Nalgene plastic and Guyot Designs bottles made of stainless steel.
Caffeine can have its place in wilderness survival. And if you enjoy having fresh coffee in the wilderness the ingenious GSI H2JO! Coffee filter may be for you:
- Fill your bottle with hot water.
- Screw on the GSI H2J0! Coffee filter.
- Add coffee grounds
- Close the lid
And that’s it. Your coffee will brew and the filter keeps the coffee grounds out of the water.
I could also see this filter repurposed (the ability to repurpose gear is always a big plus) as an aid to physically remove the larger impurities from drinking water by simply inverting a bottle full of raw water while the filter is screwed on.
American Bushman and Survival Topics had a short discussion about the merits of using a stainless steel bottle for coffee making and hot water verses one of plastic Nalgene. With the recent talk of plastic leaching harmful chemicals into food and water, you are perhaps better off to stick with stainless steel when using the GSI coffee filter.
