I recommend that every Survivor keep and maintain a Bug Out Bag.

What is a “Bug Out Bag”? A bug out bag is an emergency disaster supply kit that is kept close to hand at all times. It is designed to contain the items necessary to survive the first 72 hours, or three days, of a disaster. For this reason it is also known as a “72 hour emergency kit”.

Bugout Bags are made to be grab and go. Should a disaster occur, the Bug-Out Bag allows you to quickly evacuate with the materials and supplies you need pre-prepared and all in one place. Because you cannot foresee where you may be when disaster strikes, I recommend you prepare separate bug out bags for your home, office, and vehicle.

72 Hour Bag for Bugging Out

Why have enough supplies for at least 72 hours? Disaster relief organizations advise that it may take up to three days to reach those who are in large disaster areas.

Of course experience has shown the 72 hour rescue advice given by disaster relief organizations can be far off the mark, as in the case of the Katrina disaster where emergency services often did not reach stranded survivors for more than a week. Should a disaster of even larger proportion occur, one can imagine having to rely upon oneself for a much longer time.

Regardless of how long a disaster situation lasts, a bugout bag will certainly increase your comfort, safety, and chances of survival. These emergency supplies will form the basis of your ongoing survival strategy.

Keep your Bug-Out Bag in Readiness

Having your bug out bag nearby and ready to go will provide you a level of security and preparedness that few others have. Should a disaster emergency strike, your first support will never come from emergency services – it will come from your own survival training and preparation. So be prepared! Have your 72 hour emergency bug out kit close to hand at all times and be ready to Bug Out.

Good article on bug-out-bags. I might add emergency bags can be tailored to your vehicle, office, and home environments. For example, special tools in your car to fix your car.

I suppose I could add a real first aid kit. Duct tape and paper towels aren't always the best. A toolbox on a truck helps alot.

Yes, Charis I agree. A good truck toolbox that can be locked containing all your bug out gear. On thing though is that you need a way to carry that gear should the truck break down, roads clogged with refugees, need to hide, bridges out, etc. You may need your bugout gear to get back home from your office or wherever. Or you may need the stuff in your bugout bag while you walk to safety or wherever.

Whatever your approach in putting together your "Bug Out Bag" find the time to actually use it in a non threatening situation at least for a day or two. Modifications will suggest themselves. Just as in "camping out" practice will improve your skills and perceptions. The same is true for weapons. Practice, practice.practice. Forgive me for pointing to the obvious.

Tailor your bag to your AOR, if you are a city dweller do not go out and buy the latest uber tactical military bag, pick a messenger bag or something. It works both ways so just adjust to your surroundings as you see fit.

I would also recomend doing  some sort of first training.  Some local fire and rescue departments offer this type of training.

Is a bug bug out bag large?

Survival Topics: A good size for a bug out bag is one you can easily store and can be carried on foot by you for many miles.  Generally speakiing, for a heathy adult that might be about 20 to 25 pounds depending upon a variety of factors such as availability of water along your intended route, climate, and your choice of whether or not to carry weaponry.

Anything over 40 to 50 pounds may slow you down and tire you, though in some environments, especially cold weather, this amount of gear may be necessary.

I recommend that your bug out bag be a rugged backpack of comfortable design and fit to your body.

since my family and i put these B.O.B-'s together the level of awareness of whats going on around us has changed...its more apparent that being just a little more prepared is better than not being preparred at all.
