Snowboarding enthusiast Burton Joyce has written a short article titled "Common Sense Survival Tips for Dealing with Gale Force Winds" in which he brings up some interesting points when dealing with high winds.

If you have ever been exposed to a windy environment, like you may encounter during a storm in exposed places or above treeline in the mountains, you know that wind can literally suck the life right out of you. Unless you are prepared that is.

Wind can do a number on your ability to survive. Wind dehydrates you, lowers your body temperature, and requires an increase in the amount of effort it takes to do just about anything.

Burton Joyce also notes that the force of wind increases exponentially compared to its speed. This means that if wind speed doubles it's force against you becomes 4 times as powerful.

You can increase survivability and comfort when dealing with high winds by having the proper equipment and making the right decisions.
