It may take weeks for outside emergency services to reach a disaster area of large extent. A disaster of immense proportions may mean you are on your own for a very long time, and when help does arrive it may very well be too little, too late, and of poor quality.
Starting right now you need to create within yourself the determination to do what it takes to prepare and to survive.
Perhaps you have you heard of the experiences of the hurricane Katrina survivors, how they waited for outside help that often failed them or was of the “too little too late” variety. Imagine a disaster that is ten or even a thousand times that size. Yes, there is a very good chance you are going to be on your own.
Determination also is important during your emergency preparedness endeavors. You need to
- Set up a preparedness plan.
- Create a preparedness budget
- Gather emergency supplies
- Seek preparedness training opportunities.
- Enlist the help of your family, friends, and neighbors.
Preparing for disasters and emergencies can be a daunting task when viewed as a whole, but certainly doable if taken one step at a time
