Develop Action Plans
More Articles Related to PreparednessWhen a survival situation suddenly occurs, you will do well if you and your group already have a prepared plan of action in place.
Your action plan will be unique according to the characteristics of your group (age, health, location, abilities, special requirements etc.) and for this reason there can be no one plan of action that will cover every possibility for everyone.
Your group survival plan should include:
- Under what conditions will action be taken? Likely candidates in a list of disasters include fires, hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, terrorist attack, nuclear, biological, or chemical war, and civil unrest. Depending upon your location there will be other threats that need consideration. For example ice storms, tsunamis, and volcanic activity.
- Where should members of the group go when it is decided action needs to be taken? During a disaster emergency the normal lines of communication may be broken. A central rendezvous site where most of your preparedness supplies are stored is often a good rallying point.
- What should group members bring with them? If time permits and transportation is available then it may be easy to bring extra food, water, clothing, survival gear and other supplies.
- Know the locations of emergency services and know how to contact them.
- Backup action plans are also important. For example, alternative sites need to be selected in advance in case the main site is no longer viable or accessible.
- At intervals go over your action plans with every member of the group. Alter the plans according to changing conditions and circumstances. Be sure every member is up to date with the current plans.
It is important that all members of your group have a complete understanding of your action plan and be able to easily recite it from memory.
Do not wait until an actual disaster emergency occurs to craft an action plan. Planning at this late stage is planning to fail. The end result could be catastrophic – your survival is at stake.
