Fire Bow Drill Contest

More Articles Related to Blog

Jeff Wagner of FirePistons.com has posted a bounty consisting of a $100 custom made fire piston to the person who can produce a coal in the fewest number of bow strokes. He counts forward and back as two strokes. Video of the deed must be sent in by the end of January.

“The challenge is - how fast can you make a coal by primitive bow drill ...no holds barred.”
-Jeff Wagner

There is a caveat – if Jeff can best the time of the fire piston contest winner, the winner must send Jeff some English spindle and hearth wood. This could be problematic for the Americans and contestants from areas outside of Europe and England in particular, or can these items be purchased online?

In any case, this fire bow contest seems to point to the idea that Jeff thinks he can best anyone in this method of making a fire – a trick up his sleeve perhaps?

For those who would like to give the fire piston contest a go, and Jeff a run for his money, I suggest visiting this fire bow page which discusses some 35 woods used in bow drill woods. Also, take a close look at the bow drilling picture!

This could be an interesting survival topic.
