Harvesting Plantain Seeds for Survival Food
More Articles Related to FoodThe Bushcraft UK website has a survival foraging post on harvesting and cooking plantain seeds.
Plantain is an often overlooked plant that has the valuable feature of being common, easily identified and edible; in short, an excellent urban and wilderness survival food. I have eaten the leaves on numerous occasions as a green but never really considered harvesting the seeds until now.
In addition to being a potential survival food, plantain seeds have some medicinal uses and is commonly known as "Psyllium Seed".
Complete with step by step pictures and descriptions, the plantain seed post on Bushcraft UK makes excellent reading as another way to harvest wild survival food.

We have quantities of plantain in boggy areas on our farm. I always wondered about the seeds. I know that the birds love them. I harvested some today and will try them out in a few ways. Thanks for the info.
