Beaver Dams Sunrise March 29 Sunrise at the Survival Topics Compound. At 5 degrees below zero F (-21° C) spring has not yet sprung in these northern mountains. The rising sun shines through millions of delicate frost crystals that grew on every exposed surface during the cold, calm night. |
This morning as the warm sun rises in a clear cold sky, the relatively warm brook steams in the early morning light. This steam condenses out of the arctic air as feathery frost crystals that grow on any exposed surface.
Those of you that live in more southern climes are sending pictures of beautiful spring flowers. Lacking vegetable spring flowers, I’ll treat you to a picture of early spring flowers Survival Topics style.
As I write this, the outside world is covered with a fine layer of white frost. This frost is composed of millions of delicate feathery crystals that form as moisture in the air cools and condenses. These delicate crystal blooms into especially beautiful shapes when the northern nights are very cold and very calm.
