Surviving the 9 to 5 grind may not be what you want

Would you like to find employment where you can put your primitive technology and survival skills to good use? This has been discussed from time to time in a number of survival forums. I would like to put forth some ideas which could earn income utilizing your special knowledge.

Outdoor employment as a survival instructor would be a dream job for many of us, especially those who are chained to a desk for forty or more hours a week. When I worked as the webmaster for a large newspaper I would often wonder what was happening in my favorite haunts in the wilderness as I sat at my desk programming. To tell you the truth I would much rather have been surviving a blizzard in the mountains than surviving a blizzard of paperwork in the comfort of my office.

Military Survival Training

For survival jobs, I know military survival instructors are in demand, though of course many survivor types are too advanced in years or too independent to sign on for several years of military service. Still, if one were young and wanted to learn more than just the basics of surviving in the wild, military survival training is an excellent option from which a survival career can be launched. Plus it is one way to get that cool military survival knife you have always wanted.

Survival Schools

But there are alot of other possibilities where bushcraft and survival skills can be a part of the job description. For example The Maine Primitive Skills School has survival experts on staff. If you are interested in that line of work you should be able to find a survival school somewhat near your area. Take a few courses, show them your interest and dedication, and you may very well find yourself employed.

You could always open your own survival school if you have excellent survival skills, enjoy interacting with and teaching people, and have what it takes to survive in the business world. In fact, there is an increasing interest in schools that offer survival training, as people perceive the world as being less stable.

Survival Gear

If you cannot find or do not want employment in the survival or primitive skills area, you could always make a living selling survival gear. Survival knives, survival emergency kits, preparedness food caches, outdoor clothing, and books on survival topics are all popular. Selling survival gear is often part of an Army Navy Store type setting, and here again military training could come in handy.

You could create custom made outdoor survival gear or survival food packaged specifically for the environment your customers need. Perhaps you would like to be a survival kit supplier and let others do the actual selling.

The Survivor Mentality

Any endeavor takes time, training, and persistence to get right. If you have honed your skills in survival and primitive technologies, then you have something of value to share with the world. Whether or not you make money doing it.
