Fatal falls are the number one way to loose life in the outdoors. Protect yourself by being aware and being smart. Before you take the risky route scout the area. Often with a little bit of planning you can find a better safer route.
How Far Can a Person Fall?
In 1972 a flight attendant from Yugoslavia fell 33,330 feet when the airliner she was in exploded. She had two borken legs and was temporarily paralized.
The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, Guidelines for Optimal Trauma Care has found that falling a distance of about twice your body height will create a 50 percent chance of a major injury. If you fall 50 or more feet onto a hard surface the result will almost always be the end of your life.
