The Maine Primitive Skills School has created and tested a prototype survival knife called the MPSS Extended Survival Knife that will soon go into limited production.
The MPSS Extended Survival Knife has a 6-inch drop point flat ground blade with saw teeth on the back. The blade consists of 1095 carbon steel that is tempered to be strong yet hold a keen edge.
The knife handle is 5-1/4 inches and made of canvas Mycarta. With it's extended tang, the knife can be used for pounding without damage to it's handle. In addition, the handle to the MPSS Survival Knife is designed to be removable and replacable.
The handle of this Maine Primitive Skills School Survival Knife also features a bow drill socket, which certainly comes in handy when making a fire using the bow drill fiction method.
The tough MPSS Extended Survival Knife is manufactured by Dan Gray of Gray Knives in Brownville Maine. It comes with a Kydex sheath.
All in all, the Maine Primitive Skills School's MPSS ESK looks to be an excellent survival knife, developed and made by those who know what is needed in survival knives.
