No Survivor is a Real Survivor without a Warm Hat
More Articles Related to ClothingThere have been times spanning many centuries when no man was a real man without a hat. An no woman was a real woman without a hat too.
Hats are often personal trademarks of the people who wear them. According to the place and time hat fashions varied - the tricorn hat of the eighteenth century French, the tophats and then later fedoras, the pillbox hat, and baseball caps so loved by the Americans. And of course the ubiquitous American cowboy hat continues to be in favor for both men and women throughout the world.
Through the ages hats have been worn for adornment, rank and personal protection. Hats have also been used as protection from the elements of cold, heat, wind, rain and snows of winter.
Knights proudly wore plumed helmets into battle - and in the battle for survival no survivor is a real survivor without a hat. Specifically a warm hat.
In a survival situation staying warm and conserving calories are often of top priority. Even in warm weather areas of the world the body can be exposed to cooling elements. Rain, wind, and the cooling effects of rest, sleep, and sickness can bring your core temperature down even in the tropics. In many places of the world the weather can change dramatically and without warning. Due to miscalculation or injury you may find yourself spending more time exposed to the elements than you planned on. Hypothermia is a constant danger to the unwary.
There are a number ways your body loses heat to the surrounding environment. A high percentage of heat loss is from the area around the head and neck. Efficiently trapping this heat and preventing it from escaping buys the survivor a wider comfort zone. That is where a warm hat comes into play. A warm hat can save your life.
The beauty of warm hats is that they take up so little space and are very light weight. If the weather is warm you can put a warm wool hat or synthetic hat at the bottom of your pack or in the trunk of your car and forget about it. When the weather turns on you or you are in need of rest and sleep, your warm hat is worth the bulk and weight of a big and heavy wool sweater. While wearing your warm hat you'll not only be warmer and more comfortable, you will also be conserving calories that can be put to other uses later on. Like finding food and water, making shelter, and getting out alive..
