The True Survivor NEVER Gives Up

An incredible survival story is that of Michael Holmes who pulled off one of the most amazing free falls of all time and lived to tell about it.

When parachutist Michael Holmes jumped out of an aircraft at 15,000 feet he did not know he was about to take the fall of his life. When his main parachute failed to open completely he found himself spinning out of control in freefall.

When skydiver Holmes pulled his main parachute chord at 4000 feet the chute did not open fully. This put him into an uncontrolled freefall spin that forced blood into his extremities and nearly caused him to pass out.

What is even more exciting about this parachuting accident survivor is that parachute helmet cams were on both Michael Holmes and a fellow chutest Jonathan King. Captured on video from both both cameras, the survival epic was fully recorded as he plunged in virtual freefall.

Struggling the entire way to free the main parachute, Michael Holmes soon realized he was below the 700 foot threshold that would allow his backup emergency parachute to fully open. He opened the emergency chute anyway. 15-seconds before impact he waved a final goodbye to the camera and said: "Oh, shit. I'm dead, bye.

But Michael Homes survived the fall. As Michaels helmet camera free fall video shows, Holmes landed in a mass of tall berry thickets at a glancing angle. The berry bushes broke his 70 mile per hour free fall enough so that he survived the free fall with severe injuries to his foot and chest.

When Holmes was asked about skydiving again, he relied. "I'll more than certainly jump again, it's what I do everyday, it's what I love."

Take a look at the incredible the Michael Homes free-fall parachuting accident caught on video.

Surviving skydiving incidents are all about remaining calm and calling upon your training. Deaths seem to be caused by negligence (ignoring training/common sense) about 97% of the time if not higher. I remember hearing about Mike when this happened and I thought to myself, "he is alive because he remained calm and collected". He did everything he could to survive. Skydiving can sometimes on very rare occasions be the ultimate survival test, because you literally have seconds to make the right decisions, but remaining calm and using emergency procedures is what keeps you alive.

His main and reserve did not deploy as expected, but he was able to keep a parachute in the air, however satisfactory and give himself some parachute surface to slow his decent. He also didn't landed on a flat surface and steered onto something "softer".
