Make sure your immunizations are up to date, including tetanus and hepatitis. Stay fit, eat good nutritious meals, and have on hand any medications you need.
Your dental health is more important than you may think. During a survival situation, what would have simply been a bad tooth can become a major medical emergency. Without proper dental care, infected teeth can very well become life threatening. At the very least it can very difficult to function properly when beset with sore teeth. For this reason your teeth should be kept as healthy as possible at all times.
If you wear eyeglasses be sure to keep spare pairs. Do not discard your old ones as they may come in handy should you loose or break your latest pair.
Keep your feet in excellent condition. In many survival scenarios, your major mode of transportation is going to be by foot. Keep your toenails properly cut and your feet injury free. Be sure to have rugged, well fitting, and broken in footwear. Hiking boots are an excellent choice for survival footwear as they will serve you well in most survival situations. If you live in a cold weather environment you may have to supplement your hiking boots with special cold weather boots.
Be sure your overall physical condition is maintained. Eat right so that when disaster or unexpected emergency strikes you start with your body fully charged with nutrients. Get plenty of physical exercise so that you can meet the increased demands of emergency survival. You need to consider strength, endurance, and flexibility in order to keep your level of physical fitness at a high level.
A word to the wise - do not smoke, you will need your lung capacity and your health. Smokers typically age 20% faster than the rest of us. In fact, avoid the poisons of all drugs including alcohol. Your funds are better spent acquiring survival gear and skills.
