Survival Topics Firesteels
Survival Topics Firesteels are large and robust, the perfect size for ease of use and thousands of fires:
- Considerably longer at 3.937 inches (100mm) than those other firesteels to give you a good long scrape.
- A robust .315 inches (8mm) thick, this firesteel makes many thousands of fires.
- With no handle it is lighter and easier to pack. You can also scrape from both sides, which makes for more lights from the same firesteel.
I recommend using an old piece of hacksaw blade as one the best firesteel scrapers. You can also use the back of your survival knife or nearly anything that is hard and sharp.
You can also order them (United States addresses only) through the mail by sending $7.99 each plus $2.00 shipping and handling to:

My Survival Firesteel arrived today. It is longer than any other firesteel I have used, and thicker also. It gives bigger sparks than other firesteels I have used, very long lasting sparks.
I never liked the scrapers provided by other firesteels, so I took your suggestion to use an old hacksaw blade. This works excellent!

I want to buy firesteels in a group of ten, can I ask for more?

Good survival site! These firesteels catch fire far better than flint and steel! The big sparks let me make a fire easy. My friends are getting some once they saw mine.

I recently ordered some ferro-rods (8mm x 100mm) from this site and pretty much forgot about them within minutes, assuming they would be along in a few weeks. I was wrong about that.
The firesteels arrived in just a few days and they are very good quality ferro-rods. Additionally, I got a nice letter explaining their use and thanking me for contributing to the site. The price was exceptional too so, if you have a few bucks to spend and they have it on this site, think about using it here to support this great site.
I am impressed with the site and the personal nature of the "business" conducted. I'll be back and I have added this site's address to a list of sites I have been collecting for a group pf college students who have inquired about such things as "survival." My daughter is one of those "kids" and I trust this to be a good plce to visit. Thank you!

Just ordered some of your firesteels. Any advice on milling, drilling or shaping them to secure handles?
Survival Topics - thank you for purchasing survival gear, Chewbacca.
I have had success drilling firesteels using a hand drill and a vise. Try to rotate the bit slowly or the firesteel may spark heavily. You can also shave firesteels down using a sharp blade, but of course do not use quick motions or apply too much pressure.

Hi Ron. The firesteels work very superbly. A few strikes to remove the protective coating and then comes the showers of hot sparks.
Remember that in an emergency situation, using a firesteel at night to attract attention from a passing plane or other rescuers could be very effective. A few strikes in the air would look like a flare. Those sparks should be visible for quite a distance on a dark night.
Survival Topics - Thank you for the feedback Dan. And good point about the use of firesteels for attracting the attention of aircraft at night. The hot 3000 degree sparks would be seen for a very long distance.

I enjoy Survival Topics almost daily so I purchased a firesteel to show my support and urge everyone to do the same. I use flint and steel as my back up but these firesteels look so much simpler i will give them a go. Thank you and please keep up the good work.
Survival Topics - thank you Ronnie. Firesteels are much easier to spark than traditional flint and steel. This makes them ideal for emergency situations and I highly recommend firesteels over matches and other fire starting aids - a firesteel always works!
You are welcome to share this Survival Topic with others. I only request that you use a short blurb (not the entire survival content) and this code to

Note how much longer Survival Topics Firesteels are, a real advantage when scraping off big sparks. These firesteels let you add your own custom handle or leave as is to save on bulk and wieght.

Sweden, Swiss, more
Thank you Ron, the firesteel is very good quality and burns hot hot hot.
Did you know the firesteel is made for the military in Sweden? It is very cold some times of the year and the best ways to start a fire is with the Swedish firesteel.
