Fire keeps you warm when you would freeze. Fire makes your water safe to drink when you are thirsty. Fire cooks your food, helps improvise tools and survival gear, keeps insects at bay and wards off those things go bump in the night so that you can get some rest.
All that for carrying a simple little match and scrounging up some materials at hand.
Many survivors have never given much thought as to just what fire is and how a fire works. Thats where the Fire Tetrahedron comes into play. The Fire Tetrahedron is a model that simplifies the concept of what is needed to start and maintain a fire. The four sides of the tetrahedron represent the four essential elements for fire to exist.
You can also think of the Fire Tetrahedron as a formula. Provide the four required variables in the correct configuration and you have yourself a blaze!
You would think our concept of fire and the necessary elements to create and maintain fire would not have changed much over recent years. But it has!
